International Jazz Day Madrid 2019
April 30th was proclaimed International Jazz Day by the UNESCO General Conference in 2011, and events are organized in hundreds of countries around this genre, along with the official celebrations.
Through a collaboration between the Madrid City Council, La Noche en Vivo, and Proyecto Cactus, we celebrated the second edition of International Jazz Day Madrid, and I had the incredible privilege of creating the visual identity for this year. I illustrated a powerful and empowered Black woman with a cello, representing the many women who have been and still are discriminated against in this field. Although there is still a lingering atmosphere of discrimination against women in the jazz world, the trend over the years points to a hopeful future. |
